The Power of Gratitude

The goodness in thanksgiving

Bible text - Psalm 92:1-15 TPT

1. Giving thanks is good, so enjoyable - verse 1

“It’s so enjoyable to come before you with uncontainable praises spilling from our hearts!

How we love to sing our praises over and over to you, to the matchless God, high and exalted overall!

The moment you give thanks you are filled with joy because your eyes and hearts are off the troubles of life. A lifestyle of thanksgiving is an enjoyable one

Rejoice always and delight in your faith; be unceasing and persistent in prayer; in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. Do not quench [subdue, or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 AMP

2. Giving thanks is not time-restricted verse 2

At each and every sunrise we will be thanking you for your kindness and your love. As the sun sets and all through the night, we will keep proclaiming, “You are so faithful!”

We give thanks for the streams of mercy throughout the day

And praise His faithfulness by night

David praised God seven times a day

“I stop to praise you seven times a day, all because your ways are perfect!”

Psalms 119:164 TPT

“I will praise the Lord at all times. I will constantly speak his praises.”

Psalms 34:1 NLT

3. We praise God with instruments verse 3

Melodies of praise will fill the air as every musical instrument, joined with every heart, overflows with worship.

What comes to mind when instruments are mentioned include drums, piano, guitar ets. these are necessary and good when you have them around you but you don't have to wait till you get these before you praise the Lord. Your mouth is your number one instruments, your hands are there, you can stomp your feet.

The wall of Jericho fell down after the people of Israel matched with their feet around it for seven days and shouted with their mouth

“O clap your hands, all you people; Shout to God with the voice of triumph and songs of joy.”

Psalms 47:1 AMP

“Praise him with drums and dancing! Praise him with loud clashing of cymbals! Praise him upon the high-sounding cymbals! Praise him with trumpets blasting! Praise him with piano and guitar!”

Psalms 150:3-5 TPT

4. Why do we give thanks verses 4-6a

No wonder I’m so glad; I can’t keep it in! Lord, I’m shouting with glee over all you’ve done, for all you’ve done for me: what mighty miracles and your power at work—just to name a few! Depths of purpose and layers of meaning saturate everything you do. Such amazing mysteries are found within every miracle that nearly everyone seems to miss.

When you refuse to give thanks you miss amazing mysteries which are found in the miracles you overlook

“Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to [the abundance of] His greatness.”

Psalms 150:2 AMP

We praise Him because it is good and makes us look lovely in His sight

“Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! How beautiful it is when we sing our praises to the beautiful God, for praise makes you lovely before him and brings him a great delight!”

Psalms 147:1 TPT

We praise Him because He is good

“Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; Sing praises to His name, for it is gracious and lovely.”

Psalms 135:3 AMP

5. Reason for ingratitude verses 6b-9

Many people are ungrateful because of the following reasons

A. They lack discernment

Those with no discernment can never really discover the deep and glorious secrets hidden in your ways.

B. They focus on the riches of those who do not know God

It’s true the wicked flourish, but only for a moment; they foolishly forget their destiny with death, that they will all one day be destroyed forevermore. But you, O Lord, are exalted forever in the highest place of endless glory, while your opponents, the workers of wickedness, will all perish, forever separated from you.

Psalm 37 forbids comparison or envy of the wicked

“Don’t follow after the wicked ones or be jealous of their wealth. Don’t think for a moment they’re better off than you. They and their short-lived success will soon shrivel up and quickly fade away, like grass clippings in the hot sun.”

Psalms 37:1-2 TPT

6. What happens when we praise God verse 10-15

A. Strong anointing

Your anointing has made me strong and mighty.

B. Life of triumph

You’ve empowered my life for triumph by pouring fresh oil over me.

“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us spreads and makes evident everywhere the sweet fragrance of the knowledge of Him.”

2 Corinthians 2:14 AMP

C. Victory

You’ve said that those lying in wait to pounce on me would be defeated, and now it’s happened right in front of my eyes, and I’ve heard their cries of surrender!

D. Flourishing

Yes! Look how you’ve made all your devoted lovers to flourish like palm trees (every part of you is fruitful and useful), each one growing in victory, standing with strength!

E. Planted in the courts of our God (remember you can only enter His courts with praise)

You’ve transplanted them into your heavenly courtyard,

F. Thriving and expanding

where they are thriving before you, for in your presence they will still overflow and be anointed.

G. Fruit-bearing till old age

Even in their old age, they will stay fresh, bearing luscious fruit and abiding faithfully. Listen to them! With pleasure, they still proclaim: “You’re so good! You’re my beautiful strength! You’ve never made a mistake with me.”

Psalms 92:1-15 TPT
