Scriptural text
“Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is thrown out like a [broken off] branch, and withers and dies; and they gather such branches and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you [that is if we are vitally united and My message lives in your heart], ask whatever you wish and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified and honoured by this when you bear much fruit, and prove yourselves to be My [true] disciples.”
John 15:4-8 AMP
“Practice and work hard on these things; be absorbed in them [completely occupied in your ministry], so that your progress (profiting) will be evident to all.
1 Timothy 4:15 AMP
How do you profit through your stewardship?
Jesus in His valedictory speech in John 15 gave us His recipe, standards and guidelines on How to be a profitable steward
1. Acknowledge God as your source
“You have not chosen Me, but I have chosen you and I have appointed you [I have planted you], that you might go and bear fruit and keep on bearing, and that your fruit may be lasting [that it may remain, abide], so that whatever you ask the Father in My Name [as presenting all that I AM], He may give it to you.”
John 15:16 AMPC
“[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.”
Philippians 2:13 AMPC
“This is what the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says, “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit (benefit), Who leads you in the way that you should go.”
Isaiah 48:17 AMP
2. Acknowledge that you are called to serve
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.”
John 15:16 NKJV
Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favour].”
1 Peter 4:10 AMP
3. Acknowledge that you need assistance
Dwell in Me, and I will dwell in you. [Live in Me, and I will live in you.] Just as no branch can bear fruit of itself without abiding in (being vitally united to) the vine, neither can you bear fruit unless you abide in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. Whoever lives in Me and I in him bears much (abundant) fruit. However, apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5 AMPC
4. Acknowledge the spiritual endowments in you
“He cares for the branches connected to me by lifting and propping up the fruitless branches and pruning every fruitful branch to yield a greater harvest. The words I have spoken over you have already cleansed you.”
John 15:2-3 TPT
“Do not neglect the spiritual gift within you, [that special endowment] which was intentionally bestowed on you [by the Holy Spirit] through prophetic utterance when the elders laid their hands on you [at your ordination].”
1 Timothy 4:14 AMP
5. Acknowledge the place of hard work
“But if you live in life-union with me and if my words live powerfully within you—then you can ask whatever you desire and it will be done. When your lives bear abundant fruit, you demonstrate that you are my mature disciples who glorify my Father!”
John 15:7-8 TPT
“Practice and work hard on these things; be absorbed in them [completely occupied in your ministry], so that your progress will be evident to all.”
1 Timothy 4:15 AMP
6. Acknowledge that you have to profit
“When you bear (produce) much fruit, My Father is honoured and glorified, and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine.”
John 15:8 AMPC
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all:”
I Corinthians 12:7 NKJV
7. Acknowledge the importance of personal development, that you have not arrived yet
“Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit. If you live in Me [abide vitally united to Me] and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.”
John 15:2, 7 AMPC
“Pay close attention to yourself [concentrate on your personal development] and to your teaching; persevere in these things [hold to them], for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.”
1 Timothy 4:16 AMP
8. Acknowledge the nature of time and be careful with every minute of your life. use it wisely
“If a person is separated from me, he is discarded; such branches are gathered up and thrown into the fire to be burned.”
John 15:6 TPT
“Making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil.”
Ephesians 5:16 AMP
There’s time and season for everything according to Eccl 3:1 so with time comes opportunities to profit. Don’t miss it
9. Acknowledge the power of collaboration
“Remain in Me, and I [will remain] in you. Just as no branch can bear fruit by itself without remaining in the vine, neither can you [bear fruit, producing evidence of your faith] unless you remain in Me. I am the Vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in Me and I in him bears much fruit, for [otherwise] apart from Me [that is, cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing.”
John 15:4-5 AMP
“I planted the church, and Apollos came and cared for it, but it was God who caused it to grow. Now, the one who plants and the one who waters are equally important and on the same team, but each will be rewarded for his own work. We are coworkers with God and you are God’s cultivated garden, the house he is building.”
1 Corinthians 3:6, 8-9 TPT
10. Acknowledging the privilege of service through fruitfulness and thanksgiving
“When your lives bear abundant fruit, you demonstrate that you are my mature disciples who glorify my Father!”
John 15:8 TPT
Why do we need to profit
- You get more attention from the father
“He cares for the branches connected to me by lifting and propping up the fruitless branches and pruning every fruitful branch to yield a greater harvest.”
John 15:2 TPT
- Unprofitability leads to severance from the father
“Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit.”
John 15:2 AMPC
- It demonstrates maturity
And it brings glory to the father
“When your lives bear abundant fruit, you demonstrate that you are my mature disciples who glorify my Father!”
John 15:8 TPT
“I give thanks to Him Who has granted me [the needed] strength and made me able [for this], Christ Jesus our Lord, because He has judged and counted me faithful and trustworthy, appointing me to [this stewardship of] the ministry.”
1 Timothy 1:12 AMPC
Prayer
Thanksgiving

I have been chosen and commissioned to go into the world to bear fruit. And my fruit will last, because whatever I ask of my Father, for the sake of Christ, He will give it to me
As I live in union with Christ as my source, fruitfulness will stream from within me and God shall be glorified in Jesus name
The Lord my God, my redeemer is the one who teaches me to profit in my stewardship, and He leads me in the way that I should go.
